The Dream: to start a band in my college town with all women. I met Katherine Baloga and we started the hunt for members. We managed to find 4 other female musicians, a drummer, electric guitar player/singer , keyboardist, and a tambourine player. I myself play Bass and sing a little and Katherine does main vocals and guitar. Having done some prior work with designing for bands I was extremely excited to design for my own band. My first goal was to establish a logo.

First logo design for GrlBnd.

Second logo design for GrlBnd

These were from original photos Nicole Evans took at our first show. Using the second version of the logo I added a threshold effect and printed both of them out as stickers.

For this event I image traced a college into a poster. At this point in time I hadn't completely finished the second version of the logo so I didn't want to use it yet in the poster.

To be taken seriously as a woman in the music industry is extremely difficult in a world dominated by men. Collages create this idea of a reclaimed and reshaped message. One that provides empowerment to the women who see them.

This is the design I wanted to use for our first big show...however the band didn't like how small the typeface was for an instagram post. They also wanted more of an emphasis on the other bands.

Final Design for the Brik House event.

One goal I had was to make zines. Zines were used by other girl bands such as Bikini Kill and Le Tigre in collage.

I image traced and recolored some of the photos from our first show for the zines.

Printed this using the Risograph, a traditional printer for zines. Made 25 editions.
