My name is Meredith Purdy. I am a designer and artist who currently studies at Appalachian State University as
a Graphic Design major.
a Graphic Design major.
I use design as a medium to push ideas beyond the norm. I begin my work with a strong foundation on how design systems typically function, but I hold onto an equally strong curiosity to bend those expectations. I approach each project with a mindset of “What if I do this?”. Design, to me, is a form of question asking as well as problem-solving. A solution lies between the collaboration of knowledge.
Throughout my practice, I’ve been drawn to the complexities of ethical representation, to the unique transposition between music and visual art, and to the way typography can shift the entire meaning of any given piece of content. Typography holds tremendous power capable of amplifying voices, reshaping messages, and reframing cultural context.
I am interested in what happens when all of these curiosities intersect. My work aims to represent others thoughtfully, to challenge how we perceive design’s role in our everyday lives, and to expand my understanding of process. Ultimately, the problem I hope to solve is not a singular issue, but a much broader one, “How do I create to represent others, challenge the way we see design, and learn new processes along the way?”
At the moment I am continuing my design internship with
