EMPLOYER REVEIEW:
"Meredith is a very pleasant person to work with. She takes criticism very well, which will serve her in design class.
Meredith was most helpful with our old and new stories for the FB&C website. She picked up on the process of building and editing stories quickly. She was also very helpful in finding public domain images for our Marketplace project. There are a large number of categories and she was able to locate many of the representational images. She is very creative.
I touched on several applications with Meredith. She laid out much of the autumn issue for me (departments & columns) using InDesign. The Leland Little ads provided a lot of Photoshop instruction. She learned some basics in Adobe XD while mocking up the Marketplace buyer’s dashboard. She picks up software very quickly.
Aside from the software, simple tasks like selecting text, formatting text, keyboard shortcuts, etc.—which I consider more “muscle memory”—will be VERY helpful to her this year. She started out her internship with a good deal of trouble with these things. Now she’s performing like it’s second nature. She also learned the importance of keeping files organized.
When appropriate, I taught her some design basics, like the “squinting” trick to judge space and color, the rule of thirds, avoiding tension with spacing, etc. I taught her typographical spacing, photo composition, white space, etc."
